Dear Youth Club members,
Tean Youth Club is unfortunately closed this Friday (11th October 2024) due to damage at the Hall last week. This followed a warning two weeks before that if further damage to the Hall happened we would have to shut to repair and meet with the volunteers.
Apologies for the short notice and inconvenience.
Great Wood Community Hall is a volunteer led organisation that relies on grants and donations to keep the Hall running for the community. Many of the volunteers of Youth Club are also volunteers on the Great Wood Community Hall committee and have requested that we close for the week as damage to the Hall is not tolerated.
We're grateful for the support of our young leaders, and volunteers that help to keep the club going and have done for the past 10 years. This is the first time we have had to shut for a reason like this in those 10 years.
We are sorry that the actions of a few have impacted the members that enjoy and respect the club, spend the time with friends and in a safer space than the streets.
We have a committed team of volunteers however any support in helping to keep the club open week to week as our numbers of young member attendees increase would be warmly welcomed. Any experience is welcomed, training can be provided.
The volunteers will be at Great Wood Hall for a committee meeting should any parents / guardians wish to talk to us.

On the 28th April, Laurel from the OUTSIDE Youth Advisory Group visited the club to make Parade Placard's with the members and to discuss what Art projects our members want in Staffordshire.
Attendees made banners on a wide range of topics that were important to them, including the all lives matter movement and love is love. Some attendees were enjoying the activity so much that they spent their entire session working on their placard.
Young people aged 14-24 are invited to join the OUTSIDE youth advisory group. Use this link to get involved: https://www.facebook.com/groups/747116220412483

Dear Tean Youth Club Members and Parents,
I am excited to remind you that Tean Youth Club is reopen again this Friday following our Easter break. The club will now be open until the May holiday (last session before then is on the 26th May), where we will close for a week before reopening (on the 9th June) until the end of the school year.
In addition to announcing our reopening, we have a few updates to announce following our AGM.
New Entrance
We will be moving the entrance back to the main hall and will be locking the side gates. This should ease the queueing round the building before the start of the session, and should make it easier for you to access the club.
Entry Costs
Before half term we trialled a £1 entry for those who arrive after 8pm. Whilst the idea seemed good in theory, we found that in practice it was ineffective as it tied a volunteer to an entry role that was not needed after the first half hour. Therefore we are reverting back to our previous system of £2 entry for members (£2.50 for non members), with attendees encouraged to arrive within the first 30 minutes of the club opening. All money raised goes towards running the club; (paying hall hire, purchasing equipment, running events, and subsidising trips...
Volunteering Opportunities
As ever if you, or anyone you know would be interested in volunteering at the club to help us to keep the club running, then you would be welcome to get in touch via email.
Music
We want the music played at the club to be fun, relevant and ultimately what you want to listen to. We can guess what you enjoy, but we know that our music knowledge is dated by our generation differences. Our music lead Dale is looking for members to help him refresh the club's music. So if you want to listen to music that interests you, please see Dale by the music area in the hall. (Please note that we only play songs that do not contain explicit language).
Event Ideas
Finally whilst we have a fun and diverse schedule of events planned for the next few months, we are open to ideas from members and parents about what to do. You are the experts of what you are interested in doing at the club, so please reply to this email or speak to Alana, Alex or Gerald to discuss your ideas, and we will see what we can do (provided it is possible, safe, and age appropriate of course!).
Alexander Wood on behalf of the Tean Youth Club Volunteer Team
Secretary
Tean Youth Club
We had a lovely AGM on the 22nd March 2022 at Great Wood Hall, but sadly we said goodbye to Chris Wells as she steps down from the role of Secretary.
During the pandemic Great Wood Hall had a change and we now have a new youth club room! If you have any ideas for decorations for the room, please get in touch.
We've painted a blackboard wall for you to draw on!
